Howard the Cat

on Monday, July 6, 2009

The morning before we left for Oregon, Jo was woken up by our alarm system, Clem. Investigating, we found the body of Howie laying in the yard, to our dismay he had left us. Howard was only six years old, so this came as a shock to both of us, as we have another feline, Sofia who is 21 and Erma who is 12. We live in a dangerous place for cats with preditors ranging from coyotes to cougars, owls and hawks, not to mention the rattle snakes. I know from investigation, that none of the above touched Howard. He was a champion of outwitting them all, he knew his home and every escape route.

Howard was a remarkable cat and I had to respect his incredable hunting and survival skills. I can not count the times we would find live birds flying in the house, gifts from Howie, myself I am not sure if they were for Jo, or for the other felines. Myself, I am normally, not a cat person, but this one was different in so many aspects, you just had to love him. We have other cats, but Howie will never be replaced or forgotten.
